Olly Moss

Ingenious visual cunning & wit.

This guy's got a stylistic similarity to Saul Bass, particularly when it comes to the simple and perfectly executed film posters. He also reminds me of Bob Gill, in his understanding of the visual language and an ingenuity, that makes you go, "why didn't I think of that?!"

Here's some from his website that I ruh-huh-heally love.

The guy who drew the stuff in "I Met The Walrus"...

His site's reet frickin' enjoyable to explore, really nice!

Strawberry Swing

So here it is. Coldplay's official 'Strawberry Swing' video directed by Shynola.

I'm so glad it's an actual music video and not just an advert for a fucking insurance company, or a phone company - I'm sick to death of big corporate brands jumping on the band wagon, when their brand values and core sensibilities aren't even reflected in the disproportionately large amount of creativity on show. It's as if animation/cartoons/hand drawn things have become absolute commonplace on mainstream telelvision (my boyfriend detests this wave) and up until now, this hatred had not yet been instilled in me, but finally I have decided that it's all a bit too much. So... no more Carphone Warehouse animations, please?

Wes Anderson.

This is yet another film which I love, where the plot is about the people, the relationships, and moreover, the oddness of these people and these relationships. I love idiosyncrasies - the dysfunctional parts of us that make us so interesting and so individual, and I think, so too does Wes Anderson. His quirky style of presentation throughout the film is brilliant, the content is expertly and understatedly witty, and the art direction is simply beautiful. Superb.

I literally LOVE this film. Not only is it visually exciting but it embodies so much of what I love about story telling (done so well in particular by the Frogs). I love the idiosyncratic world to which the viewer is introduced - the attention to detail is second to none. I love Audrey Tatou's performance. I love the accompanying soundtrack (Yann Tiersen). I love the quaintness of it all. I just love it in it's entirety, and am always disappointed when the credits roll, as it ends all too soon for my liking.
