Laura Ashley.

As much as I try and fight my love for everything sickeningly "girly", I just can't do it. Since I was about fourteen, I would visit sites like Laura Ashley's, and ogle the duck-egg fabrics, powder pink scatter cushions and most of all - their fabulous wallpapers. I know it seems rather sad that such things would interest me at such a young age (I still managed to maintain a healthy following for boy bands, of course), but I just loved everything about it. It's a fusion of French and British traditional and girly styles and I just can't wait to have a bit of dollar (and a home) for an excuse to buy it all. I can just picture it now - sipping my Earl Grey from my Laura Ashley crockery, along side my home made cakes placed on a Laura Ashley cake stand, taking my elevenses in the drawing room, decorated in Laura Ashley's "Summer Palace" wallpaper; but at £25 a roll, I think I'll have to wait just yet.

Burgers & Murders.

As a friend of mine, sometimes I think I'm probably being biased when I say that Brendan Campbell is one of the most talented songwriters I have ever come across.
But one more listen to this song through headphones, turned up as loud as physically possible; and I know he really is.
Such inventive and poetic lyrics accompanied by (in particular) this melancholic tune has brought tears to my eyes (and on more than one occasion).
If you like a good lyric, please take a look at his site (though I don't think he has Burgers and Murders on there just now).
So please download this song from iTunes (this vid doesn't do it any justice whatsoever), and squint one eye and cup one ear next to your speakers, 'cos you don't want to miss a word.

Lomography.

For a cretin like me, who has not yet (and probably never will) master the science of photography, it's all about pot luck. I understand about compositional issues etc etc, but to be honest, I just can't take a good fucking photograph. So, after copying a few of my mates (hi Gus & Loui), I decided to buy a Fisheye and a Diana+. They may both look and feel like toy cameras (lighter than even a disposable and rattling on occasions), but the outcome of their photos can be really, really amazing. After having flicked through the accompanying book, I fell in love with "Lady Di" as I now call her. However, having fucked up several films by being devastatingly stupid, I am still awaiting my first film's development! So for now, here are some other people's accidental artworks to drool over.

It's quite nice to see how the scenesters rock their latest looks from country to country. Continually borrowing styles from different eras and passing them off as their own - somehow they actually get away with it. Thanks to the witty accompaniment in Vice's usual style of writing, I can't get enough of the weird and the wonderful. After having seen these, I feel like going eBay crazy.

4 Music Channel Idents

I love these super-slow motion idents. Such a simple idea but so effective; expertly executed too. Nice choice of accompaniment in Florence And The Machine's "Kiss With A Fist".

Sebatien Tellier - La Ritournelle

Beautifully emotive music. Beautifully and emotively shot. Vraiment superbe.
